The essay writer is an artist and a chronicler, and during this course, we will be "those upon whom nothing is lost." This class considers how to write exceptional prose. We'll look at the use of image, voice, and language, as well as the juicy facts and details that give non-fiction power. Students will write their own prose pieces, and keep a notebook for the things that inspire their writing.

Emma Trelles is the author of Little Spells, a chapbook of poems published by GOSS 183 press. She is a Pushcart Prize nominee for poetry and, this year, a finalist for the Green Eyeshade Award in art criticism. She is also the editor of MiPOesias Magazine's American-Cuban Issue. She is a graduate of Florida International University's MFA program in Creative Writing and works as an arts and culture journalist in South Florida.
